with reference to your despatch

No. 124133/47A/1933) of 18th September

enclosing a memorandum from the Chinese

Government on the subject of the export of

military arms to China without the endorsement

of the Chinese Government Huchao by a Chinese

Legation, I transmit to you herewith a copy of

a letter which was addressed to Mr. Tennyson Tan

in reply to a similar démarche on the part of

the Chines: Legation in London.

The present position as regards the export

of arms from this country to the Dominions and

Colonies is as follows;

No military arms may be exported from this

country to such destinations without an exnort

licence, and while it is usual to grant licenses

freely for the exportation of sporting arms,

this policy is not followed in the case of war

material/
